Perform rescue from within a tree in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus (Initial and/or Refresher)

Description

The aim of this course is to equip learners with the skills and knowledge required to safely perform a rescue of a person stranded, injured, or incapacitated in a tree located near live electrical apparatus. The unit focuses on recognising electrical hazards, assessing the rescue environment, and applying safe access, climbing, and retrieval techniques while maintaining mandatory electrical safety clearances.

Learners will develop the capability to plan and execute a rescue in coordination with authorised personnel, follow emergency procedures, use rescue equipment effectively, and ensure the safety of themselves, the casualty, and the work team. The course prepares participants to respond confidently and compliantly to high‑risk rescue situations involving vegetation and electrical infrastructure.

Target learner group

This unit is designed for workers who may need to rescue a person from a tree located near live electrical apparatus. It suits experienced vegetation‑management staff, arborists, utility field crews, and emergency responders who work around electrical infrastructure and must be capable of performing safe, compliant rescues in high‑risk environments.

Learning outcomes

Learners will be able to identify electrical hazards, assess the rescue environment, and plan a safe rescue of a person from a tree near live electrical apparatus. They will use appropriate climbing and rescue techniques to retrieve the casualty while maintaining electrical safety clearances, and complete all post‑rescue reporting and compliance requirements.
