Fell Small Trees

Description

The aim of this course is to provide learners with the skills and knowledge required to safely and effectively fell small trees using appropriate tools, techniques, and workplace procedures. The unit focuses on assessing tree and site conditions, selecting suitable equipment, applying correct cutting methods, and maintaining safe work practices throughout the felling process.

Learners will develop the ability to plan and conduct felling operations in a controlled manner, minimise environmental impact, and complete post‑felling clean‑up and reporting requirements in line with organisational and industry standards.

This unit is suited to entry‑level or developing workers in arboriculture, horticulture, landscaping, parks and gardens, conservation, and land‑management roles who need basic skills to safely fell small trees.

It is ideal for individuals performing routine outdoor maintenance tasks and using hand tools or basic chainsaw equipment under supervision.

Learning outcomes

Learners will be able to assess trees and site conditions, plan and prepare for felling, use safe and correct techniques to fell small trees, and complete post‑felling clean‑up and equipment checks while following workplace and safety requirements.

Learners are required to have the following which conform to A/S standards to participate in this course:

  • Helmet with earmuffs
  • Eye protection
  • Chainsaw pants/chaps
  • Gloves
  • Boots
  • Hi-vis

Assessment approach

Learners will be assessed using a combination of the following methods:

  • Theory/Written Assessment
  • Direct Observation/Practical Assessment

Accreditation Status

Nationally recognised training.
Upon successful completion, learners will receive a statement of attainment.
